Background

In previous years cooperation between Green Youth organizations in Eastern Europe was limited and mostly connected to seminars, study sessions etc. Idea born in spring 2002 about gathering Young Greens from all over Eastern Europe under same umbrella and support their development, political work and cooperation, was brought to light in summer first meetings of eastern European young greens during summer seminar on Sustainable Development in Serbia.

Enthusiasm and energy we experienced there was extraordinary. Therefore with support of European Umbrella for Young Greens and Green Forum, second meeting took place during Federative Council of Federation of Young European Greens. Development of independent international cooperation structure that will organize number of cooperation projects in following year turns to be central point of interest of participants.

In December 2002 CDN become reality and with support from Green Forum we developed our communication tools and public presentation tools in January 2003 and we have meet for first time officially as network in February, 14-16 in Belgrade. This meeting was followed up with very successful first Council meeting of the Network that took place in Ohrid Macedonia from 20th to 22nd of June 2003.

Network meeting in Ohrid was very important for development of our organization. At this meeting we basically defined all organizational issues; CDN Statutes and CDN Political Platform were decided, the Executive Committee has been elected, logo, headquarters, accounts and action plan for 2003-2004 were discussed and decided as well. This meeting was as well supported by Green Forum Foundation from Sweden and their representative Marie Utter joined us this time as well bringing lots of positive energy and experience with organizational issues.

3rd Network Meeting of CDN has been held from 27. - 29. May in Bitola, Macedonia. This meeting gathered 14 people from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Germany and Sweden. Delegates and guests in a very pleasant atmosphere have had a very good discussions, workshops and decision-making sessions that have manage to improve our basic documents (Political Platform and Statutes), decide on the new member organizations and the executive committee, new logo, working plan and the budget and give plenty of ideas for future work of CDN.

CDN is at this moment project based organization and aims to become organization with regular running budget in future. Support from Council of Europe and other international foundations are needed in this area to be further developed.
