Project information
Where and when will the meeting be held (venue
(place), starting and end dates):
15. – 22. July 2007, Kyiv, Ukraine
Number of working days:
6
Working languages: English
Main
themes:
Main themes of this event are the youth mobility in Europe, visa policy and practical situations, youth
participation and active contribution to changes in the society and development
of tools to tackle the obstacles in freedom of movement and more active
cooperation. We want to:
Learn about present state of procedures regarding
visa policies and study the system of regulations and decision making that
enables policies to function
Exchange experiences with applying for visa and
attending international events with specific weight given to examples of bad
practice by embassies and discriminations
Develop different ideas and tools for practical
actions, from lobby work to street activism, and train youth leaders in order
to support the struggle for removal of visa obstacles
Motive participants to take action and empower them
to become more active in their society and to recognize the importance of
participation in the democratic processes
Objectives:
The mobility of young people is essential for
building up democratic countries and civil societies in Eastern
Europe based on European values. Many young people in Eastern Europe and especially in post-soviet countries
are rather passive regarding problems in their society. Lack of opportunities
and means for experiencing other cultures and cooperating with other countries
is always additionally strengthen by visa obstacles.
By exploring the situation of youth mobility in
Europe by providing participants with the background knowledge about European
policy concerning visa regimes we want to encourage social integration of young
people from all backgrounds and give them the chance to make concrete actions
in order to tackle this problem.
Due to the fact that there is increasing number of
human rights violations linked to visa procedures, it is necessary to identify
those violations and find main inequalities in visa procedures, discuss their
background and support solutions that are reducing discrimination and promote
cultural diversity and freedom of movement. Intolerance among European citizens
has to be prevented by supporting civil society development and the promotion
of active citizenship.
Methodology:
We will use multipart composed of lectures,
presentations, workshops, role plays, games, discussion groups, panel debates,
working groups, taking part in local activities (actions). We want to make
working atmosphere closer to young people from eastern countries same time
keeping the short distance with general methods that western participants are
used to.
Working groups will be formed in order to come up
with recourses for future projects, fresh ideas and views. We will also focus
on personal experiences and interactive learning that will ensure equal
opportunities for all to contribute.
To ensure practical follow-up we will create report
and social committee so participants are able to be part of preparing and
reporting different parts the seminar.
