Project information

The aims of our project are:

In the recent years obvious signs of increase of irresponsible use of environment can be observed. Tourism is one of the main human activities, which has an impact on the biodiversity and cultural heritage.

Tourism is a billion euros industry in the modern world that embraces hundreds of millions of people every year. It is a main source of revenue for the economy of many developing countries. However, its influence on the biological and cultural resources is increasingly harmful. At the same time the meaning of cultural heritage and biodiversity is not only meant to be a resource for tourism.

Preservation and the use of biodiversity are in close relation with the cultural and social diversity of people. Cultural differences determine the relations between them and the environment. The preservation of the environment cannot be achieved without taking into account the characteristics of every culture and it may not be done at the cost of the cultural richness and diversity. These problems are subject of many international activities as UNESCO First Bioethics Days organized in 2005 in Dakar (Senegal).

Keeping in mind these problems, we would like to contribute to their solution by proposing the following aims for the exchange:

To gather young people, representatives of different European cultures, in order to discuss many different points of view on the problems treated by the project.

To identify the main problems for preservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage in the scope of social and cultural differences.

To define and develop guidance for preserving biodiversity and cultural heritage by using characteristics and advantages of local and regional cultures.

To define and develop guidance for future projects of harmonious use of biological and cultural resources, providing sustainable local, regional and international development.

These global objectives will be dealt with on a local level by using the fantastic conditions and resources of the Northern Black Sea, and the coastal area of Dobrudja. The project will use data from the local coastal areas and will provide solutions, determined by their specific characteristics.

Call for Partnership agreements

CDN - Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe and Youth Club of Bulgarian Green Party with support of FYEG is announcing a call for partner organisations of the Youth Exchange "Ethical Tourism – Sustainable Management of Biological and Cultural resources".

This call is open for youth organizations from Programme countries and SEE countries (see bellow the list of these countries)! This is due to the restrictions of the Youth Programme !!!!

The main idea of the youth exchange is to bring together young people from different countries who are interested in the environmental issues and the influence of mass tourism development on biodiversity and cultural heritage. Project will take place in Bulgaria in September 2006, at the costal area of Dobrudja at the Northern Black Sea. The Coastal Dobrudja covers the area from the town of Kavarna to the Durankulak Lake and is an example of the link between the cultural richness and the biodiversity. It is a unique example of the beauty and importance of the coastal areas. It is a combination of steppe landscape, wetlands and picturesque rocky coast. In the preserved areas “Shabla lake”, “Durankulak Lake” and “Kaliakra” reside many animal and plant species, which are threatened with extinction.

If your organisation feels motivated to take part in this exchange PLEASE FILL IN AND SEND THE ATTACHED partnership agreement and participation questioner BY 25th of January 2006, 14.00 CET and send it to e mail (scanned signed agreement): This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Study visit

This weekend Cvetan and Alex were in visit to Bulgarian Young Greens. Like one main attitude that we have is that we have strong and very well organised, active young group in Bulgaria with a big capacities for organising activities and events.

On the meeting that we have in there office in the centre of Sofia we met with 8 members of BYG including Ogy, Gorica and Toni. BYG are youth branch of Bulgarian Green Party and there are not independent NGO but they have full cooperation with old members of the Green party. We have small presentation of CDN history and work and after that we were focus on Kavarna exchange that will be held in September.

From BYG we had small presentation of the place and after that we star to talk about official details of the project. We divide present members on two groups, one which were working on program of the exchange and second which were working on technical and financial details. At the end we signed agreement between CDN and BYG for cooperation on the exchange in Kavarna.

On saturday we joined with then the protest against NATO bases in Bulgaria and gave support to our green group.

You can photos from the visit and the protest here.
