Project summary: Subject of the meeting: “Minority Rights, Youth and Ethnic Conflict Prevention” Where and when will the meeting be held (venue (place), starting and end dates): 30/03/2009 – 05/04/2009, Belgrade, Serbia Number of working days: 6 Working languages: English Main themes and aims: - Overview of ethnical conflicts in Europe, identify the causes of past ethnical conflicts and tension in Europe and to examine its impact on involved ethnic Minority position, status and human rights violation. Special focus on Eastern European ethnical disputes based on nationalism contrary to regional issues in “old” EU countries. - Achievements in European regions (mainly East – West perspective) on ethnic understanding and support for further cultural, ethnic and religious cooperation and diversity. - Human Rights as keys for improving ethnical minorities protection, mutual understanding, acceptance, tolerance and solidarity in and overview of diversity which should be recognized appreciated and assumed to be beneficial to the society. - Youth participation as perspective and tool for peaceful ethnical conflict prevention and minority protection. Ways of involvement and improvement of minority youth participation. Objectives: - We want to raise discussion about interethnic and regional conflict and resolution and role of youth in prevention of interethnic incomprehension, and involved minority status. - Examining previously efforts done on conflict resolution in Europe we want to provoke criticism from green perspective, and to come up with solutions which can be improve implementation based on European macro regions (east and west). - We want to promote intercultural and interethnic understanding by emphasizing the youth work and activism as important part in supporting of the development of sustainable, democratic and diverse society. - We want to encourage multiculturalism, interethnic dialogue, and respecting of the cultural heritage and to support the role played by the minorities in a multiethnic, democratic and diversified civil society. - We will provide participants with necessary tools and knowledge in order to motivate them to become active in their own local communities and to promote human wrights, anti-discrimination policies and social cohesion, and to be able to improve cooperation of their organizations with minority youth organizations. - We want to learn and discuss about methods that can be used to make youth participation more efficient and effective by implementing democratic way of work and human wrights respect. This seminar will help knowledge and information flow so that young people could be better acquainted with the position of these issues in different countries in Europe and also to draw some general conclusions on them. This gathered information, knowledge and connection among participants of this project should bring closer European youth and encourage them to participate more in dealing with each of these issues further on, more thoroughly. Methodology and planning: We will arrange lectures, workshops, discussion groups, panel debates, educational games, role play, open space technology workshop and other different program elements though which we will ensure equal opportunities for all participants and give them opportunity to learn more about themes of the summer camp and to develop their own platforms for future activities, projects and cooperation. We will visit local authorities on different levels and try to identify different aspects of political work in protecting minority wrights, preserving their cultural heritage, strategies for developing multiethnic society and find role for young people in development process. Also we will organize public action in order to promote objectives of the summer camp. Other youth initiatives from the community will be invited to join our action. Photos, videos and texts will be created aiming to support future activities by participants and organisation to continue the work we have started.
