CDN – Cooperation and Development Network in Eastern Europe is looking for a new Gender Group Coordinator to take on the challenge of re-organizing and re-vitalizing the activity of its Working Group on gender related issue in South-Eastern Europe. The Gender Group Coordinator will be in charge of coordinating the overall work and activities of the CDN Gender Group and will be responsible to the Executive Committee.

His/her tasks will include:

Identify the need for re-organization and possible changes of the Working Group and take the necessary steps to implement these changes.

Develop and implement strategies to increase participation in the Group (recruit new members, establish contacts with other organisations and structures working on related issues).

Coordinate the elaboration, jointly by the members of the Group, of a strategy and objectives for the Gender Group and of a work plan for 2008.

Divide tasks and responsibilities within the Group, by common agreement with the members of the Group.

Oversee communication between the members of the Group (which includes facilitating email interaction, conference calls), between the Group and the CDN EC/Network & Office Coordinators, as well as between the Gender Group and member & partner organisations/other organisations (such as FYEG).

Oversee the development and implementation of plans for distributing information about the Group’s work (make sure the website is updated and an e-newsletter is circulated regularly)

Coordinate the reporting to the EC and the NM:

§ To the EC: submit periodic reports on the progress of activities within the current workplan (the periodicity of these reports will be commonly agreed upon by the Group Coordinator and the CDN EC).

§ To the NM: submit an annual evaluation report on the activities developed in the previous year and a work plan for the following year.

Increase efficiency of the overall process and harmonization of outcomes by coordinating work across and within projects.

Support substantially the EC and NC in identifying funding sources for the Group and in submitting grant proposals.

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience in youth organizations and voluntary work. (previous work in a Young Green organization and/or participation to CDN/FYEG activities is an advantage)

Has knowledge and interest in gender related issues, with focus on South-Eastern European working culture and political approaches.

Would be committed to CDN’s objectives and methods of action.

Is a good organizer, communicator and facilitator, and is able and excited about working in an international multi-cultural environment.

is eager to take initiative and motivate a team (plus be a good team player!)

speaks/writes/understands English pretty well.

Please bear in mind that CDN is a non-governmental organization based on voluntary work, therefore we will not pay you for the work you do. All we can promise you is that this work will be very challenging and rewarding by itself!!!!

.

Also please consider, before applying, whether your programme allows you to commit some weekly working hours to the tasks associated with this position (however, these working hours are flexible, so it all comes down to your own time management skills). There is no requirement on where the Coordinator should be based, however you should be available for travelling from time to time. And you should have regular Internet access, since most of the communication will be done via e-mail (after all, we are living in the virtual era so we have to adapt).

**********************************************************************************************************************

The CDN Gender Group was formed as a result of the CDN’s previous work on gender issues. Our first activity was the “Sexual (R) evolution” seminar (21-24 July 2005, Belgrade) – a starting point in dealing with gender related issues within this network. The subsequent activities - the “Gender Evolution” Study Session (4- 11 December 2005), the “Women in contemporary societies – The ladder of inequalities” (Arandjelovac, Serbia, 1-7 April 2007), as well as the publications supporting the Gender Equality Campaign - have proved to be good opportunities for involving young people from different European countries and organizations in answering important challenges and rising awareness on different gender issues that exist in our societies.

By enriching the understanding of human rights, gender roles, gender stereotypes and gender equality in South-Eastern Europe and by providing the space for the practice of necessary skills and for the planning of future action, the Working Group on Gender issues within CDN aims to enhance the capacity of young NGO activists from all over Europe to advocate for human rights as a way of achieving gender equality.

We have created a Gender Group because we strongly believe that dealing with traditional areas of action, as well as more recent ones (e.g. equal conditions and equal treatment in employment, reproductive health, non-sexist education and education for equality, equal access to political life and to decision-making, as well as sexual freedom and sexual differences, prostitution, trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, violence in situations of armed conflict or the need to find ways of reconciling professional and family life) is an important part of CDN’s work now and in the future.

We have also created a Gender Group in order to give young people the opportunity to identify and discuss differences and similarities in the approaches to gender issues between Eastern and Western European countries and between Eastern European countries themselves. By doing that we have found grounds and the direction for our future work and have created projects we will have in future.
