Call for Coordination Team: Urban Steps For Resilient Future

CDN and its Alternative Urbanization Working Group are announcing a call for members of the international Coordination Team of our Annual Work Plan “Urban Steps for Resilient Future – Building Youth Activism in Eastern Europe”. The project is a follow up of CDN’s Study Session in the European Youth Center Budapest from 2016 titled “Reclaim Your City” and aims to explore Urban activism as an entry point for youth participation, to help young people turn their ideas into concrete actions and to enable young people to articulate their political demands to the local authorities and stakeholders. The full project description can be found HERE.

Coordination Team members are going to coordinate the Annual Work Plan and all its activities – Training of Trainers, Regional Trainings and Local Action – with a full support of a member of CDN Secretariat and Executive Committee respectively.

We are looking for young people that are passionate about alternative ways of urbanization, fair, inclusive and green cities, youth participation in political decision making, as well as the values of the Green movement. The call is open for people coming from Council of Europe member states, as well as Kosovo*, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

DEADLINE for submitting online applications: 23rd December 2017 at Midnight (CET). Continue reading

New Office Coordinator in CDN

We are happy to announce that Özgecan Kara is joining CDN Secretariat as an Office Coordinator in January 2018.

Özge’s green political activism started with Gezi Protests in Turkey in 2013. Since then she has been actively involved with Young Greens of Turkey. She was a part of several prep-teams and projects in CDN and FYEG as well as a delegate at the General Assemblies of both organisations. Before joining CDN, she worked as a project coordinator for Green Thought Association (Turkey) for three years, coordinating EU funded projects on policy making and capacity building. She is on the Board of Yeşil Gazete (Green Newspaper) and produced/hosted a weekly radio show at Açık Radyo on climate change. Her working interests are green thought, climate change and feminism.

We look forward to further development of our Network with Özge!

Call for participants: Caucasus Regional Meeting 2017

Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe is announcing a call for participants for Caucasus Regional Meeting, that is taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 17 to 19 November 2017.

This event will gather Green-minded activists from South Caucasus and serve as a platform for discussing common challenges of activists in the region and exchanging experiences and strategies for addressing these challenges. Therefore, we want to:
1. Discuss how current political regimes in the three countries affect youth activism, share local contexts and identify threats and opportunities for consolidation of a Green movement in the region;
2. Exchange strategies and tools for successful youth activism in the region;
3. Address the gender inequality issue with emphasis on the position of LGBTQ+ people in the region;
4. Equip the activists with practical skills and tools for protecting their privacy online in order to overcome surveillance (encryption, safe browsing, VPN, etc.).

We are looking for young Green and Green-minded activists coming from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, willing to share their activist experience and learn from the others. When selecting participants, an advantage will be given to CDN Member Organisations from the region as well as to the Greens/CDN-associated organisations and initiatives.

The program will be based on the principles of non-formal education. We strive for active, inclusive and direct communication and knowledge sharing. Sessions will be balanced between educational inputs, workshops, discussions, reflections, exchanges, brainstorming and other interactive methods of learning. The program will be facilitated by young activists from the region and CDN structures.

-The full cost of lodging during the meeting will be covered by the organisers: Accommodation in a hostel with multiple bedrooms; Meals – starting from a dinner on the 17th and ending with lunch on the 19th (note: some meals might be vegan or vegetarian); Coffee and refreshments in between sessions.
Travel to Tbilisi by land will be fully covered.
Optional: participants might choose to contribute to the event with 10 EUR participation fee if their financial situation allows so. We do not want the participation fee to be an obstacle for someone’s participation. Therefore, financial contribution is not a selection criteria.
-All sessions will be conducted in English – therefore participants are expected to have a working knowledge of it.

DEADLINE for submitting applications is Monday, 30 October 2017 at Midnight (CET).

Urban Steps for Resilient Future – Building Youth Activism in Eastern Europe

CDN is organising a long-term project that will address urban communities – particularly the way they are built (environmentally and socially) – and young people’s role in shaping and improving those. Public spaces and urban commons are political and social areas that young people identify with and where they exercise their rights. There is a need for reclaiming those spaces and strengthening young people’s ties to them. In order to empower young people in reshaping their communities through direct actions – based on principles of democracy and inclusion – to create more sustainable green cities, we want to: Continue reading

CDN’s Alternative Urbanisation Working Group decided to open a call for articles on this very topic, with a focus on urban self-management. Continue reading
