Call for the Participants for the CDN-FYEG Study Session: Canvas of Change

We are excited to announce the opening of the call for Participants for Study Session jointly organised by CDN and FYEG and in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe - Canvas of change: Youth, Culture, and Political Participation.

The Study Session will take place from 29 September to 4 October 2025 in European Youth Centre in Strasbourg, France.

(Please note that the mandatory arrival date for the participants is 28 September and departure date is 5 October 2025).

The Study Session aims to raise awareness of green and progressive European youth about the role art and culture have in shaping political processes and empower 35 young people to use creativity and innovation for activism, political participation, fight against discrimination, and creation of sustainable and inclusive future of European societies.

The objectives we will aim to reach are:

  1. To equip participants with knowledge about the historical and political dimensions of art and culture, with a focus on diverse European cultural heritage including heritage of underprivileged communities.

  2. To inspire creativity and innovation through exploration of imaginative and artistic approaches to activism and political engagement.

  3. To encourage green youth of Europe to integrate artistic and cultural approaches to their future organisational processes and youth projects related to political participation and anti-discrimination.

  4. To encourage intercultural dialogue between European communities, with reflection on their geographical, historical, political, and social diversity of heritage

Who should apply?

If you are a young person aged 16-35 from any Member State of the Council of Europe plus Belarus, Holy See, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Kosovo* (national or resident) and you are interested in the topic of the event, we invite you to apply to be a participant at this event.

We encourage applications reflecting diversity in all forms; therefore, we welcome applications from those who identify as women, LGBT+ people, people of colour, with migration background, with a different ability, or with any other disadvantaged backgrounds.

Participants who are active in their local communities and youth organisations, as well as those interested in beginning their activist or political journeys and are having high motivation to learn about the content of the Summer Camp, are highly encouraged to apply.

Practicalities:

The main language of this activity will be English. Nonetheless, not being comfortable interacting in English should not prevent you from applying, majority of us at the event will be non-native speakers and the group will be able to help out if there is some term you might not know!

The full cost of working materials, travel costs, visa and lodging (accommodation, food, and refreshments) during the event will be covered by the Youth Department of the Council of Europe.

The participation fee for this event is 50 EUR. Selected participants will be asked to pay the invoice upon confirmation of participation. Please note that we would not like this fee to be an obstacle to your participation and for this reason we have a limited budget to support some participants – if you are unable to pay this amount, you can ask for a partial reduction of the fee upon selection.

For selection of travel means we encourage participants to combine the most economic and environmentally friendly way (lowest price + travel time + CO2 emissions). Upon acceptance, you will receive our Financial and travel guide.

DEADLINE for submitting online applications is 20 July at 23:59pm CET .

You will be informed about the results of the selection at the latest by 11 August.

Note that you will have 2 days to confirm your participation by replying to the email, so be sure to check for emails and respond by 13 August! Should we not receive confirmation from your side, your participation will be automatically canceled.

Please add project.coordinator@cdnee.org to your contacts, so that you do not receive our reply in spam folder.

Application process:

Below is the link to the Application Form. Please read the instructions on the form carefully!

There is an option for you to answer some questions in the video format, so make sure to check the application some time before you plan to submit responses. Note that the applicants who send a video will have an advantage in the selection process.

There is also an option for you to include link(s) to the artwork or a cultural piece you created/participated in and/or a piece that represent you and your approach to art and culture, while filling the form. This is not a hard requirement and applicants who do not share anything will not be disadvantaged as we aim to include participants with no specific artistic experience – this will serve the purpose of us to get to know the applicants a bit better and their view on art and culture.

Note on AI use:

If you plan to use AI to assist your application writing, we strongly encourage you NOT to generate the text that you will copy and paste into the application or read out while filming. We don’t oppose the use of AI as a supportive tool, but we do advocate for fair and smart use of AI, as per our Keeping Green Values in the Age of AI Resolution.

In addition, on Saturday, 12 July 25 at 15 CET we will be organising a Consultation call for interested applicants where we will share tips and info on what our prep teams are valuing when assessing the applications. For all interested, please register on the link below.

Express your interest in the event below (after which you will receive the link to the form)!
