Building resilience of green youth organisations in Eastern Europe

What was our 2025 Work Plan about?

The Work Plan of 2025 consisted of an international Resilience Building Summer Camp as the first phase, which was held in July in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova - followed by Refocus Local Actions that were realised all across Eastern Europe.

Both activities aimed to to support green youth organisations in Eastern Europe to build resilience for operating within environments characterised by democratic backsliding and deterioration of democratic values and maintain capacity to advocate for improvement of democratic processes to counter these trends.

Resilience Building Summer Camp

Resilience Building Summer Camp took place in Chișinău, 7-12 July 2025, hosted by Gutta-Club!

The Summer Camp intended to equip participants with knowledge and skills related to resilience building for operating in environments characterised by democratic backsliding, and empower them to disseminate that knowledge and skills among their peers.

The objectives we aimed to reach are:

  1. Enhance the understanding of democratic backsliding among participants by exploring topics such as rights restrictions, lack of media freedom, mental health deterioration, and shrinking space for civil society.

  2. Provide a safe space for participants to analyse and understand root causes of democratic backsliding, it’s trends and effects on societies, and possible ways of resisting and countering these trends.

  3. Equip participants with essential skills for resilience-building in autocratic environments, including adaptability, resourcefulness, strategic thinking, community building, and prioritizing mental health and well-being.

  4. Empower participants to apply knowledge and skills gained to their organisational workings, disseminate them among their peers, and implement them in their national and regional contexts.

Resilience Building Local Actions

Resilience Building Local Actions aimed to enable green youth activists to disseminate further the knowledge, skills, and resources related to resilience and by doing so strengthen the capacities of green youth organisations for upholding democracy and democratic values within different contexts in Eastern Europe.

Through Local Actions we supported 8 green youth Eastern European organisations to contribute to achieving this aim.
